Anna CULPIN was born 4 September 1827 at Kings Cliffe. The CULPIN family became regular attendees at the Barrowden and Morcott Baptist Chapel in Barrowden. Anna's birth was recorded there. In the 1841 census Anna was living with her parents Ann and John at Park St, Kings Cliffe. In 1851 Anna and her mother were in Park St, Kings Cliffe. Ann was a widow, as John has died in 1847 (Dec quarter, Oundle 15/207).
Anna CULPIN married Simmons MOULD on 9 June 1851 (Oundle 15/499). Simmons was a grocer, born in Wood Newton to Henry MOULD and Mary SIMMONS.
Anna and Simmons had 9 children.
Eight of the children survived to adulthood. In the 1861 census Anna and Simmons were living at Wood Newton with Simmons parents, farmers of 90 acres. Simmons was a grocer. With them in the census was Mary Jane GOODLIFFE of Lambley Lodge, daughter of John GOODLIFFE and Elizabeth STOKES and threfore Anna's cousin. In the 1871 census they were still living on the farm and Simmons was a grocer and draper. In the 1881 census Simmons had taken over the farm and was now listed as a farmer: Anna died in Jun 1890, aged 62, at Wood Newton (Oundle 3b/122).
In the 1891 census, Simmons was a widow living at Wood Newton. He was a farmer and grocer. With him were his son John Simmons, daughter Sarah Jane and grand-daughter Ethel LANDIN, aged 6 (daughter of Anna Mould and her husband Robert LANDIN). Simmons Mould died in March 1893, aged 72, at Wood Newton (Oundle 3b/132.
The Children of Anna CULPIN and Simmons MOULDJohn Simmons MOULD 1852-1927John Simmons was born in 1852 in Wood Newton to Simmons and Anna MOULD. He lived on the farm at Woodnewton with his parents being in the 1861, 1871, 1881 and 1891 censuses. In 1901 John Simmons MOULD was still living at Wood Newton, running the farm. He had married Kate Martha MASON in 1898 (Dec qtr Leicester 7a/602). By 1911, John and Kate had moved to Filbert Villa, Benefield Road, Oundle, where John was the Caretaker of the house. The census confirms that they did not have any children. On census night in 1921 John was alone at West St, Oundle. Kate was working as a "monthly nurse" for the Freeman family at Pilton, Oundle.
Kate Martha died in Oundle in June 1926 and was buried in Oundle on 16 June. Her husband John Simmons MOULD died in Oundle in February 1927 and was also buried in Oundle, on 16 February 1927.
Matthew Henry MOULD 1853-1939Matthew Henry MOULD was born in Wood Newton on 13 September 1853 to Simmons and Anna MOULD. By the time of the 1871 census Matthew had been apprenticed to Edward YOUNG, grocer and tea dealer of 13 St John St, Stamford. William Goodliffe (named after his grandmother Ann Goodliffe) was born in Wood Newton in 1854. By 1871 William was boarding in Peterborough with his uncle Robert MOULD. In 1881 he was boarding in Nottingham and working as an ironmonger's assistant. He married Julia Annie JACKSON in 1882 in Nottingham. Julia had been born in Nottingham to John and Ann (HARLOW) in 1857. By 1881 she was running a baby linen shop in Talbot St. William and Julia had three children, but the first, William Arthur was born and died in 1883.
William Goodliffe MOULD died in Nottingham in 1915 (June qtr Basford 7b/279). Julia Annie died in Nottingham in 1928. Of the two children who survived: Percy Jackson became a teacher. He married Mabel Florence TAYLOR in Leicester in 1917. I cannot find any children that I can be certain were theirs. In 1921 Percy and Mabel were living at 334 Fosse Rd, North, Leicester. By 1939 they had moved to 13 Meredith Rd, Leicester where Percy died on 17 July 1943. Mabel outlived him by 17 years dying on 4 January 1960, also at 13 Meredith Rd.
Effie Ada Alice married Charles Wilfrid LAWRENCE in 1917 in Nottingham. They had two children: Charles Neville (23 Oct 1919-1975) and Eric Patrick (4 July 1925-13 May 1969). Anna MOULD 1856-1926Anna MOULD was born 3 July 1856 at Woodnewton and was living with her parents on the farm there in the 1861 and 1871 censuses. His birth is absent from the register, but he was baptised at Woodnewton on 21 November 1858. She was recorded in the 1871 and 1881 censuses with her parents at Woodnewton. In 1891 she was living with her younger brother Frederic at Stibbington, Hunts. Frederic had followed the family business, being the grocer in this small village.
Mary married William Henry LANDEN at St Neots in late 1900. In the 1911 census they were at
Mary and William did not have any children. Mary LANDEN died at Kimbolton on 26 February 1928. William Henry died at Kimbolton on 8 February 1942. Frederic MOULD 1865-1941Frederic MOULD was born in 1865 and baptised 9 July 1865 at Woodnewton. He was recorded in the 1871 and 1881 censuses with the family at Woodnewton.
