The Goodliffe Family of Lambley Lodge, RutlandMatthew - second son of Simmons MOULD and Anna CULPINMatthew Henry MOULD 1853-1939
Matthew Henry MOULD was born in Wood Newton on 13 September 1853 to Simmons and Anna MOULD. By the time of the 1871 census Matthew had been apprenticed to Edward YOUNG, grocer and tea dealer of 13 St John St, Stamford. By 1881 Matthew had moved to become the grocer and draper at Nassington, a small village west of Peterborough and half way
from there to Kings Cliffe. Moulds still live in the village, today running the Butcher's Shop.
Matthew and Fanny had five daughters:
Fanny MOULD died at Nassington House on 22 August 1938 in unusual circumstances. A newspaper report tells of her dying ten minutes after being stung by a wasp. She was 86.
Probate was granted to Charles William LIMB, methodist minister, one of her sons-in-law and a minister who conducted her funeral. Matthew Henry MOULD died at Nassington on 20 July 1939. He left a Will, with probate granted to Frank Ernest BARNETT, outfitter and Rev Charles William LIMB, methodist minister. HIs death was noted in the papers.
The Children of Matthew Henry MOULD and Fanny MARLOWMarguerite Annie MouldMarguerite was born 20 December 1883 at Nassington. In the 1891 census she was living with her grandmother Mary MARLOW at 6 Melville St, Nottingham (which just happened to be adjacent to Goodliffe's Yard).
Marguerite became a school teacher and by 1911 was living in Crouch End, north London. She married Charles William Hartley LIMB, a Methodist Minister on 4 June 1912. They had two children: Charles Hugh LIMB (1917) and Stuart Marlow LIMB (1923). By 1933 they were living at 110 Park Grove, Barnsley, Yorkshire. On 6 November 1933 Marguerite and her son Stuart were walking down New St Barnsley when she was struck by a young boy on a bicycle. She hit her head and died a few hours later.
By 1939 Charles was living at 9 Lime Tree Ave, Retford with his sister Annie and presumably one of his sons.
Charles William LIMB died on 23 April 1961 at the Lloyd Hospital, Bridlington, from 145 Eighth Ave, Bridlington, Yorkshire. Probate was granted to his sons Charles Hugh LIMB and Stuart Marlow LIMB. Mary Gertrude MOULDMary was born 14 Febrary 1885 at Nassington. In the 1891 census she was living with her parents in Nassington. In 1901 she was still in Nassington but now working in the family shop. Mary married Frank Ernest BARNETT on 20 August 1908. Frank was a gentleman's outfitter in Nottingham. They had 3 children all born in Nottingham.
In 1911 the family was living at 9 Albert Grove, Nottingham, together with Mary's younger sister Johanna. In 1939 Mary, Frank and 2 children have moved to 20 Rolleston Drive.
Frank Ernest died at 288 Derby Rd Nottingham on 3 April 1963 and was cremated at Wilford Crematorium on 5 April. Mary Gertrude died at 288 Derby Rd on 6 July 1974 and was cremated on 10 July. Of the children of Frank and Mary BARNETT: Joan BARNETTappears to have remained unmarried. She became a missionary to Kenya; there is a shipping record for her return to Nottingham in 1950. She died in Nottingham on 8 July 1998 and was cremated at Wilford Crematorium. Her address at the time was Queenswood, Cliff Grove Ave, Beeston (a Methodist home for the aged). Paul Frank BARNETT was born 27 February 1917. By 1939 he was working as a gentleman's outfitter in Radford. He married Patricia Audrey MORELL in 1947 in Nottingham. Patricia was born 27 November 1922 in Nottingham to Arthur MORELL and Charlotte (BRIGGS). Paul and Patricia had 3 children. Paul died in Nottingham on 13 May 2007. Patricia died in Nottingham on 8 May 2012. Rosemary Doreen BARNETT was born 27 February 1922. After leaving school she became a nurse before marrying Eric LEEDHAM in 1949 in Nottingham. They had three children. Rosemary died in Nottingham on 29 October 1993. Ruby MOULDRuby was born 23 July 1887 at Nassington. By 1901 she and her sisters were living with their grandmother in Nottingham to attend school there. Ruby married Robert Ernest KELHAM in Nassington in 1910. In 1911 they were living at North St, Bourne where Ernest was a tailor. They were still in Bourne in 1921. By 1939 they had moved to Nassington, where they had become grocers. It is not clear whether this was a new grocery business or the old family business in Nassington.
Robert and Ruby had 5 children:
Robert Ernest KELHAM died 15 July 1964 at 23 Empingham Rd, Stamford. Ruby died 2 April 1972 at Ilkley, Yorkshire. Of their children: Raymond Mould KELHAM was born 3 February 1913 in Bourne. In 1921 he was with the family in Bourne. In 1939 he was boarding at 9 Kings Ave, Manchester and working as a reserarch chemist. Raymond married Margaret CHAMBERS in 1940 at Bradford. Margaret was a school teacher, born 30 Dec 1913 to Percy CHAMBERS and Emily (BINNS). They had 3 children. Their daughter Ruth won a scholarship to Oxford University in 1960. The newspapers reported she broke the family tradition that her mother and father have degrees from Cambridge. Raymond died 1 May 1993 in Kendal, Cumbria. Margaret died 28 January 2009 in Warringotn, Cheshire. John Francis KELHAM was born 25 June 1914. By 1939 he had became a solicitor. Raymond joined the RAF and became a pilot in 80 Squadron. In 1941 he married Eleanor Joan SATTERTHWAITE, a teacher, in Walsall. Eleanor was born 19 August 1916 in Walsall to Frank SATTERTHWAITE and Eleanor (WEDGE). On 2 May 1942 John was shot down Into the sea by a Messerschmitt Bf 109 about 12 miles northwest of Tobruk when intercepting an enemy air raid on a convoy. He is buried at the Knightsbridge War Cemetery, Libya, grave 10C/15. In 1945 Eleanor married John DEAKIN in Walsall. She died in Camden, London in 1994.
Joyce KELHAM was born 6 May 1917 in Bourne. In the 1939 register Joyce was staying at the Eastgate Hotel, Oxford. She married Lionel Alfred Kilby STAVELEY on 28 December in the Stamford Methodist Church. At that time Lionel had just been appointed as a chemistry tutor at New College, Oxford after fleeing Munich where he was undertaking research in chemistry. He went on to become a highly regarded thermodynamicist, He retired from academic life on September 30, 1982. He had been a fellow of New College, Oxford, since 1939 and his research career was even longer, for he published his first paper, while still an undergraduate, in 1933.
Lionel and Joyce had 3 children. Lionel died in Abingdon Oxfordshire on 12 February 1996 and Joyce died in 1999. Patrick Robert KELHAM was born 16 February 1929 in Oundle together with his twin brother Peter. In the 1939 register he was living with the family in Oundle and was at school. Patrick married Adelaide J. RUMBELOW in Leicester in 1953. They had 2 children. He later married Patricia WAKELING in Staqmford in 1973. Patrick died 29 August 2018 in Oakham, Rutland. Peter H KELHAM was born 16 February 1929. He married Olwen WILLIAMS in Stamford in 1954 and they had 2 children. Fanny Johanna MOULDFanny Johanna was born 17 June 1889 at Nassington. In 1901 she was at school in Nottingham, with her sisters and living with their grandmother. In 1911 she was back in Nassington working as a milliner in the family drapery business. Fanny married Leslie Rowell WINTER, a Wesleyan Methodist minister on 24 July 1919, probably at Nassington. They had two children - Hester Mould WINTER (18 Aug 1920-1997) and Mary Rowell WINTER (3 July 1923-1 Nov 2001). Neither birth appears in the UK records. Hester was baptised 13 Sept 1920 in the Wesleyan Methodist Church on Jersey. By 1939 they were back in England, living at 14 Well St, Bury St Edmunds. They appear to have spent the rest of their lives in Bury St Edmunds.
Leslie Rowell WINTER died at Bury St Edmunds on 7 November 1964. Fanny died there a few months later on 25 April 1965.
The children: Constance Kate MOULDConstance Kate was born 27 December 1895 at Nassington. In 1911 she was at school in Nottingham, living with her grandmother as had her older sisters. Constance married Alan Castledine WHITE in Nassington on 26 Dec 1924. Alan was an engineer, born 27 October 1895. They went on to have two children: Margaret E. WHITE (1926- ) and Ruth Marlow WHITE (9 Sep 1927- 3 April 2017). In 1939 the family was living at 13 High View Ave, Keyworth, Nottingham.
Alan died at 2 Bingham Rd, Cotgrove, Nottingham on 23 June 1957. Constance Kate died in Nottingham on 17 November 1969.
