After 1911 it is difficult to trace Ellen and Ernest. In the 1939 Register, Ernest is living with a Rose E GORE, widow, but the other entry is closed so we cannot determine if Ellen was there also. But there is an Ellen E WARD, born 24 December 1872 living at 19 Bramley Rd, Ealing, London, residing with a William H WALKER, single and a musician. Is this Ellen (RICHMOND)? The register refers to Page 18. Ellen is also recorded on this page, at the same address, but nearly all other entries on the page are closed.

Ernest John WARD died 4 May 1954 at Hillcrest, 2 Swain St Leicester, late of 118 Evington Rd. Probate was granted to Leslie MANSFIELD a professional musician. Note that in the 1911 census Ernest stated his occupation as house painter and muscian. It is not clear from the probate whether Ellen was still living. Ernest may have appointed a musician as executor because Ellen was dead, or because they were estranged.
