Cruising the Danube from the Black Sea to the North Sea April-May 2023: Day 31
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Introduction
Our last day in Amsterdam. We left our luggage at the hotel and boarded Tram 12 to the Museum stop. We had a booking at the Rijksmuseum for 10:00 am.
After several hours in the museum we headed back to the tram, stopping for some food at the food stalls outside. Tram back to Central, retrieved
our luggage, walked back to Central and waited for the bus to the ferry. The bus left at 3:30 pm so we headed to the stop at around 3:00, just as the
rain started, soon turning into a downpour with lightning and hail. We were very wet by the time we boarded the bus. Off to the ferry terminal at
Ijmuden, handed over our passports, tickets were issued and we were then through Immigration in a few minutes. Onto the ferry and off we went to
Newcastle. The ferry is enormous, with 3 decks of vehicles and 3 decks of cabins. Had the buffet dinner and an early night.
Rijksmuseum
This museum, one of many in Amsterdam is enormous. It is largely an art museum, full of magnificent paintings by Dutch masters through the ages.
It is also very popular and by late morning it had become very crowded. As expected, we met up with couples fresh from our Scenic Jade trip. We took a break from looking at dark Dutch masters and found the cafe. You could order from your table using the
table 's QR code and phone but it did not work for me so the charming waitress took our order for cake and coffee. After that it was back to the Masters for a while. Outside there were a few showers of rain but we were able to queue for a large cone of fries and
a selection of sauces. Then Tram 12 back to Central Station.
One of the downsides to the crowds and low lighting in the museum is the difficulty of taking photographs. This there is nothing to display for today.
