2 November 2024: Day 32

Montreal - Mont Royal

Introduction

A cold morning, only 4C but the Metro was warm. The cafe from Friday was closed for the weekend so we hoped to get breakfast when we arrived at the stop near to Mont Royal. Unfortunately there was nothing there either, so no breakfast. We walked through the leafy suburb that lies behind Mont Royal and close to the University. Nice houses, all with piles of leaves waiting to be collected. We arrived at the side gate of the Mont Royal Cemetery, right beside the grave of Leonard Cohen. Then we walked along to the main entrance where the office was open and we found a very helpful person who soon directed us to the Blackwood grave that we were seeking.

After photographing the headstone we followed the winding paths through the cemetery and down to the Kondiaronk Belvedere, a large building with a superb view of the city of Montreal. The path then headed downhill to the "Peel Steps" and back into the city. The path proved to be very steep with around 400 steps so we were glad we were going DOWN. Our progress was interrupted by squirrels, which we just had to stop and watch. Eventually we reached Peel St which took us into the city, but we were soon stopped by another squirrel, this time a real entertainer.

And that concluded our 5 weeks in Canada
