26 May 2025: Day 6

Light's Vision of Adelaide

Introduction

Sunday morning was fine and sunny, so we decided to delay our time in the library and instead walk across the river and up the hill past the Oval to the lookout known as "Light's Vision". It was from this hill that Colonel Light foresaw the makings of a large and prosperous city on the banks of the Torrens River. Then we walked back down, passing the Adelaide Oval where a huge crowd was gathering - it was the AFL game between the local Adelaide Crows and the Perth Eagles (which Adelaide won). With the place so crowded it was impossible to find a coffee or food, so we booked a Torrens River cruise on "Popeye". A good choice, there was food and drink without the crowds but as Captain Popeye kept telling us, this was the last cruise for the day, the later ones having been cancelled due to the incoming bad weather.

As forecast the weather turned to rain a blustery winds, so we retreated to the Library to do more family history work. This was to occupy us for the next two days.
