Perth August & December 2018 - Day 9

Perth: Swan River Cruise

Introduction

Friday was another fine warm day in Perth so we decided to embark on a boat excursion up the Swan River. There are several of these cruises, but we chose the Captain Cook Cruises version that provides wine tasting on the way up, a tour of the Sandalford Vineyard and then lunch with wine tasting at the winery.

Swan River wine cruise

We arrived at 0920 for the 0945 departure and we were the last to arrive, so had less choice of seating. But as there were only about 30 people on the cruise the boat was not crowded and we had a table to ourselves. The cruise passes under the new bridge near the new stadium then cruises through rural areas with occasional houses near the river. On the way we were offered the taste of several different Swan Valley wines. We eventually arrived at Sandalford Winery where a short walk took us through their vines and wine making building and on to the restaurant. Here were had another chance to taste their wines before a delicious lunch. Then back on the boat for the trip downstream back to Perth.
