Henry EDGSON 1859-1944

Henry was born 3 December 1859 at Kings Cliffe. He was recorded in the 1861 and 1871 censuses with the family at Kings Cliffe. By 1881 Henry was living in Little Gonerby, Lincolnshire and was a watchmaker. By 1891 he had moved to Brighton but by 1901 he was back with his widowed father in Kings Cliffe..

1891 census: Henry was boarding at 55 The Old Steine, Brighton - it was and still is the YMCA.

Shortly after the 1901 census Henry moved to Peterborough where he set up his own jewellery business. He married Ann Elizabeth KNIGHTSON in Sep 1903 in Peterborough. Ann Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry and Mary (DORRINGTON), a farmer at Manor Farm, Hamerton, Huntingdonshire. By 1911 they were living at 49 Narrow St, Peterborough. The census tells us they had been married 7 years but had not had any children.

In 1921 Henry and Ann were living at 56 Broadway, Peterborough. By 1939 Henry had retired from the watchmaking business and he and Ann were living at 39 Silverwood Rd, Peterborough.

Henry died at 39 Silverwood Rd, Peterborough on 7 June 1944. Probate of his Will was granted to Barclay's Bank. Ann Elizabeth died 26 December 1944 at 39 Silverwood Rd, Peterborough. Probate was granted to Barclay's Bank and her nephew Henry Morris KNIGHTON, farmer at Manor Farm, Hamerton, Hunts. Both Henry and Mary are buried at St Mary's Churchyard, Leighton Bromswold, Hunts.
