Charles EDGSON 1861-1906

Charles was born 26 November 1861 at Kings Cliffe. He was recorded in the 1871 census with the family at Kings Cliffe. In 1881 Henry was a journeyman baker and was lodging at 34 Lincoln Rd East, Peterborough.

Charles married Julia SLIGHT on 2 June 1884 at Fletton, Hunts. They had two daughters, Gertrude Ethel (11 Dec 1886-7 Dec 1968) and Mabel (20 Sep 1888-2 March 1977). In 1891 and 1901 Charles and family were living at Bridge End, Fletton, Peterborough, where he was a grocer and baker.

Charles EDGSON died on 30 Jan 1906 at Bridge End, Fletton. He was buried at the Fletton Cemetery.

In 1911 Julia and her two daughters were running the bakery at Bridge End. In 1921 Julia and Mabel were running the bakery at 5 London Rd, Peterborough (now a car park). In 1939 Julia had retired from the business and she and her daughter Mabel were living at 24 Merrilees Cres, Clacton, Essex.

Julia EDGSON died in mid-1956 at Ipswich.

Gertrude Ethel EDGSON

Gertrude Ethel was born 1877 at Bridge End, Peterborough. She was recorded with the family in the 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses at the bakery in Bridge End, Fletton, Peterborough. Gertrude married Percy Albert MORFEY, a builder, at Peterborough in 1912. They had two children: Lionel (3 April 1913 - May 1991) and Mary (24 October 1920 - ). The gap in ages between the children was due to the war. Percy enlisted in the Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion and rose to the rank of Lieutenant. He was attached to the 1/5th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment. Percy was awarded the Military Cross in 1919 for his actions at Beaurevoir in October 1918

In 1939 Gertrude and family were living at St Osyth Main Rd, Clacton on Sea. At the house next door was Renee Louvain SCRIVENER, whom Lionel MORFEY would marry the next year, in 1940.

Percy Albert MORFEY died in Ipswich, Suffolk on 14 July 1964. After his death Julia moved to live with her sister Mabel at "Down End" a detached house at 3 Carlton Rd, on the corner with Grayshott Rd, Headley Down, Bordon, Hampshire. She died at this address on 7 December 1968.

Mabel EDGSON

Mabel was born 20 Sep 1888 at Bridge End, Peterborough. She was recorded with the family in the 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses. In 1939 Mabel and her mother Julia were living at 24 Merrilees Cres, Clacton, Essex. Some time after Julia died in 1956, Mabel moved to "Down End" a detached house at 3 Carlton Rd, on the corner with Grayshott Rd, Headley Down, Bordon, Hampshire. Mabel died at this address on 2 March 1977, according to the probate record.
