man with a fair share of vanity and gallantry. I said “I will with pleasure Mr Hutchinson”. The ladies heard my friend’s objection said blushingly “Oh, we are not afraid”. “Ladies” I said, “if you will allow me I shall have great pleasure in accompanying you”. So away we went to the top of Sherwood St, Mansfield Road being then nearly vacant of houses. I had seen the Ladies at chapel but did not even know their names. They were the Misses Anna and Eliza Speed. I found that they like myself had been brought up in the country, and had not been long in Nottingham. I thought them intelligent nice young girls. During the next twelve months I met Miss Anna, the eldest who was a very punctual teacher, and a member of the Church.
