it – “Aye” said he “it’s a bonnie beastie”. Next morning we sailed away to
Staffa and Iona. The weather was fine, the scenery grand, as we steamed
along to those two historic islands. We landed at Staffa, crossed the
little island to Fingal’s Cave, the tide and weather being favourable we
scrambled down, entered the cave and were much interested. The cave was
lofty, beautifully ornamented with stalactites, in pendents hanging from
the roof. When the sun shines in the cave, and rush dash and roar of the
waves comes in, it must be awfully grand. The wife was enthusiastic and
considered venturesome. The company sang a stave of the Old Hundred, the
tide was rising we had to hasten away to the Steamer and off to Iona,
noted for the ancient ecclesiastical buildings, and is the |
