The Goodliffe Family of NottinghamArthur Herbert Goodliffe - Youngest son of Thomas and Ann Goodliffe
Arthur Herbert was born in 1870 to Thomas and Annie. He is aged 1 in the 1871 census, living at 40 Bridlesmith Gate, Nottingham. In the 1891 census he is still living with Thomas and Annie, now at 32 Nottingham Rd, Basford, occupation Provision Merchant.
However, he did not remain a provision merchant for long. By 1891 Arthur had been to St Catharine's College. He was admitted to the College on 20 June 1888 and graduated with a BA in 1891. He gained an MA in 1895.
Arthur married Ada LEE in 1896 in Nottingham.
In the 1901 census, Arthur and Ada were living at 61 Woodcroft Rd, Wavertree, Liverpool. Arthur was a School Master:
By 1911 they had moved to 27 Elm Rd, Woodley, Rock Ferry, Birkenhead. This census confirms that although they had been married for 14 years they had not had any children. Ada died at the District Hospital, Newbury on 9 October 1918 aged 52:
Arthur then married Winifred Grace JENNINGS in mid-1928. The marriage was recorded at New Forest, Hampshire. Arthur was aged 58 and Winifred was 46. Winifred was Arthur's second cousin once removed on the GOODLIFFE side. Arthur's grandfather, Arnold, was the brother of Winifred's great-grandfather Daniel (as the family tree above shows). Arthur Herbert died on 16 January 1952 aged 82 years. Probate was granted to Winifred Grace GOODLIFFE, widow. His Will left his property to his wife Winifred and the remainder of his estate in trust to provide an income for Winifred. As they did not have children, his Will then left his estate to a variety of nieces and nephews.
Later, Winifred Grace died on 25 May 1966 aged 84: Return to Thomas Goodliffe page Last updated: 7 September 2021 |
