Christmas in England 2006

DAY 13: Wednesday 3 January

St Alkmunds, Duffield

Wednesday, we drove from Clipston, northwest towards Derby, then to Duffield. The Froggatt family spent some time at Duffield, on their way from Ashbourne, Derbyshire, to Nottingham, in the late 18th century. Several Froggatt baptisms are recorded at St Alkmunds, so we stopped to look at the church.

Duffield to Ashbourne

From Duffield, we drove north on the A6, through Belper, then turned west on the A517. The road crosses the Ecclesbourne River then climbs to the ridgeline at Cross O' Hands, before dropping to Ashbourne, where we stayed for three nights.

Our accommodation for the next three nights was at Compton House, a very pleasant B&B in the heart of Ashbourne. We thoroughly recommend this B&B to anybody planning a stay in this area.
