From the Pacific to the Atlantic - Crossing Canada by Train

Flying to Deer Lake, Newfoundland.
Introduction
We needed an early start as our flight to Halifax, Nova Scotia departed at 0925. We walked back to Toronto Union Station (no fake taxi required) then followed the signs to the UP Train (the Union-Pearson Airport connection). Tickets were easily
obtained from the machine, we walked the short distance to the entry and straight on to the train. The 0715 departed a few minutes later. A smooth ride to the airport, then a long walk to find Terminal 1 and to drop our bags for the flight to
Halifax. We were of course rather early so we had breakfast at a Tim Horton's right beside our gate. Before long we were descending into Halifax airport in Nova Scotia. We had a layover of about 3 hours so we had lunch and obtainwed some useful touring maps
free from the lovely people at the travel information desk. Then we boarded a small Q400 plane bound for Deer Lake. Here we soon had the rental car and were driving on the "wrong" side of the road (to us) into Deer Lake for the night. Found the hotel and the
new "Wing'n It" restaurant next door. Good food. Sadly, the last we ate for a while.
