Britain 09 - Day 40IntroductionThis was our last day in London, and the last day of our tour. We had to be at Heathrow by late afternoon. That gave us the morning, so we took the train out to Plaistow, part of the East End, to visit All Saints Church. Then it was back to the hotel to retrieve our bags and onto the Underground to Heathrowfor our flights back to Singapore and New Zealand. All Saints Church, PlaistowBenjamin Benton was christened and married in All Saints Church, Plaistow. We visited the church in 2003 (see the 2003 story here) so decided to return to see how restoration was progressing and so that margaret could see where her great-grandfather had lived. On our arrival the church was shut up tight, and did not look in any better condition than 6 years earlier. After wandering around we walked off back to the underground station when I spied a person open up a side door and go inside. A quick dash to the door and we were able to enter the church. Inside, a lot of restoration work had been completed. We were able to see large parts of the church that had not been accessible previously. It was a very satisfying visit. Last updated: 16/06/2017> |
