The Familiy of Charles David TAYLOR of Cairns, QueenslandHusband of Jane BEERJane BEER married Charles David Taylor on 12 May 1909 in Cairns, Queensland, although they had been living together since late 1896. (Jane's story is here.) Charles David's birth was elusive. The only reliable information we have is from his marriage record to Jane BEER. His name was recorded as Charles David TAYLOR, age 44 (so born in 1864-65), parents Charles and Fanny, and occupation of father was Gardener. Assuming all these details are correct there are thirteen births for "Charles TAYLOR" in Lincolnshire and only one for a Charles D Taylor (registered in Boston in Dec 1866). There are two Charles D Taylor entries in the 1871 census, born Lincolnshire but these have fathers named James and Richard, so are unlikely to be correct. A search of the 1871 census for parents Charles and Fanny (or Frances) finds them in Broughton, Lincolnshire with son David born 1864-65 and with David's occupation being Gardener. On the balance of evidence, I think this is who we are seeking.
This is the story of Charles TAYLOR and his family in Lincolnshire. John Taylor 1802-John was born in early 1802 to John and Esther TAYLOR. He was baptised at Fotherby on 21 February 1802, the first of five children:

John died in Binbrook in 1867, aged 65 (Jun qtr Louth 7a/363) Sarah lived on and is in the 1871 and 1881 censuses at Binbrook. Note that in 1871 she is an "Almswoman" and in 1881 is shown as "On the Parish". In both cases she was living on the generosity of the village.
Sarah died in Binbrook in 1884, aged 72 (Mar qtr Louth 7a/380). Charles TAYLOR (1844-?)Charles was born on 9 January 1844 in Binbrook, Lincolnshire, and was baptised on 4 February 1844 in the Wesleyan Methodist Chapel at Market Rasen. His older siblings had been baptised at the local church in Binbrook, but Charles and his younger siblings are in the Non-Conformist registers. The family would have split from the local church in about 1843. A new church was bult for the Methodists at Market Rasen in 1863. It has been described as an "'immensely impressive classical style non-conformist chapel. Of particular note are the Ionic pillars and pediment, and, internally, the original boxed pews - some with glazed doors and fitted furniture, the central pulpit and oval gallery."
Charles is in the 1851 and 1861 censuses with his parents. At the age of 19, he married Frances (Fanny) BRIGGS on 15 May 1863 at St Mary's Church Binbrook. Fanny was the daughter of Thomas BRIGGS and Hannah ATKINSON. The Briggs family lived 5 dwellings away from the Taylors in the 1861 census:
In mid 1864 Charles and Frances had a son David with the birth registered at Louth (Jun qtr 1864 7a/556). David appears to have been their only child. In the 1871 census the family was living at Yarborough Mills, Bridge St, Broughton. Charles, like his father, was a gardener:
It appears that Frances died in 1876 aged 32 (Louth 7a/389). I cannot find Charles in the 1881 or 1891 census, nor is he in the death rcords. He may have emigrated following the death of his wife, although his son David is in the 1881 census working as a servant (aged 17). David or Charles David TAYLOR (1864-1938)David was born in mid 1864 at Binbrook (Louth 7a/556) to Charles and Frances. He appears to have been their only child. 1881 censusBy 1881 David was working as a servant at Tows House, Ludford Magna, about a mile south of Binbrook in Lincolnshire:
Migration to AustraliaIn mid 1885 David departed from London on the ship WISTOW HALL bound for Brisbane, arriving on 25 August 1885. He was aged 20.
Life with Jane BEERThere are no records of Charles David's life in Queensland until he is recorded as the father of a child with Jane BROWN (née BEER). Jane had married Sam BROWN in 1893 in Bowen, Queensland and already had two children (William and Selina), before Sam disappeared. Soon after Sam left, probably in mid-1896, Jane established a relationship with Charles David TAYLOR and their first child, Charles, was born on 17 September 1897. Jane and Charles had eight children.
