On Safari in the Serengeti
July 2023: Day 9

Driving around central Serengeti

Introduction

Today we headed to areas in central Serengeti that we had not visited before.

We found a chameleon near our tent
And a grouse-like bird at breakfast.
Baboons in the early morning - they look cold!
even when sitting in the trees.
The heron looks out of place in a tree -
much better on the ground.
More of the grassland recently burnt off.
A warthog in the distance.
I think the hyena has spotted us...
More tourists...
I think I will leave them alone.
Termite mound.
Scattered acacia trees.
More grassland.
"I am sure I can eat these sausages..."
Maybe not.
The spiky bush looks more inviting.
Tree with weaver bird nests.
Close-up of the nests.
Zebra on new pasture after a burn-off.
A tortoise...
Hyena in the shade...
with a cub.
Another resort in the Serengeti - Ole Serai Luxury Camp. Looks great - but its only half-finished.
Picnic site beside Lake Magadi in central Serengeti (about 22km south of Seronera Airstrip)..
Helpful sign but the picnic site was also only half-finished, including the toilets.
But the lake had a population of flamingos and stilts. The water has a high salt content.

Panorama of the lake towards the north.

Panorama of the lake towards the south.
More grass fires in the distance.
Another warthog.

Our final night - a "sundowner" drink to watch the sun set.

The four intrepid travellers with our guide and host.
Always sample the local beer...
