Polar Bear Hunt 2015 - Day 6Expedition Day 1 - LongyearbyenOur first day of the expedition. After storing our luggage in the meeting room at the hotel we headed off to explore the cafes and shops of Longyearbyen, not that there are many. There are a few tourist-type shops selling clothing and the usual trinkets, two "outdoor" shops (but if you have got this far without decent outdoor, warm clothing something was amiss) and an extensive supermarket that sold everything you might need. We had to be back at the hotel at 2pm for the start of the boarding process. We were transported to the wharf by bus and then had to queue up for the Zodiacs to take us out to our ship, the MS Expedition. This was our first experience of the Zodiacs, but after a few days we were very familiar with them. Once on board we found our cabin, our luggage was already there, so we settled in ready for the mandatory safety instructions and practice.
