Orkney & Shetland 2019 - Day 2By road from Heathrow to SheffieldIntroductionWe arrived at Heathrow at 1120 and proceeded to stand in the immigration queue for nearly 100 minutes - it has been worse but not often. Our bags were waiting for us, No surprise there, so we headed out of Terminal 2 to find the bus that would take us to the Budget/Avis rental car depot on the other side of the airport. It always takes a while to sign up for the car. You have to repeat all the details that you had provided for the online booking and then you have to select a car. We were offered a choice of three, so chose a Renault Captur, a small 4-door SUV-like car with a useful diesel engine. We checked there was enough mileage left on the car (it had only done 8,500 miles - Budget get very cranky if you exceed the 15,500 mile total for the car), then we were off north onto the M4, M25 and finally the M1. No holdups on the M25 this time, no road works, no crashes. Just over 2 hours later we arrived at the Premier Inn just off the M18 near Rotherham. Why there? There were several Froggatt families living in Rotherham and Sheffield in the 19th Century so I was interested in this area. Last updated: 26/05/2019 |
