Christmas in England 2006

DAY 18: Monday 8 January

Hathersage to Manchester

Our last day in Derbyshire and the rain settled in for a long visit. We had planned to visit Hathersage, Boll Hill Quarry and other local places before driving to Lady Bower Reservoir and over Snake Pass to Glossop. However the steady rain curtailed most of these ideas, so after brief stops we headed for Manchester Airport.

We finally arrived in Manchester Airport in the rain, found the hotel at the Airport and managed to repack all our bags for the trip home.

Our return flight stopped in Singapore, giving us about 14 hours on the ground there. We booked on one of Singapore Airlines free bus tours of the city - which we highly recommend - but once again the rain arrived and we spent most of the time at the airport. Singapore Airport is one of the few places where you have the choice of paying for time in a "members lounge", or a full hotel room by the hour. We chose the lounge option where the food and drink are free, and where you can shower and relax. Another time I think we will take the hotel room option and get some sleep........
