Quebec Day 3

Introduction

Our last day in Quebec: it started wet and overcast, but brightened later in the day. We walked past the Notre Dame de Quebec then downhill below the ramparts. This took us past many of the tourist shops. Then up hill again along Rue St Jean to reach St Jean Gate. There were once three gates in the old walls, part of the defences of the city but they were eventually removed. Citizens then lamented their loss so they were rebuilt or modifed. Of interest was the newest gate named "Kent Gate", named of course after Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent. Near St Jean Gate is the Armoury, an historic military building now housing the scale model of Quebec, built in 1800. This was on our "must visit" list so we could see where Daniel Keith had his schools - but alas it was now "closed for the season". So we stopped at a local cafe for lunch (Sapristi - near the St Jean Gate) instead. Later we continued around the walls, finding the other gates.
