Britain 09 - Day 15: The Lakes District

Introduction

After an uneventful flight from Galway to Manchester, we found the rental car depot (Level 11 of the Airport Terminal !!), drove down the 10 floors and headed north to the Lakes District. The weather had improved slightly, and during the day the cloud gradually lifted. We drove along Lake Windermere to Bowness, where we had booked a week at the Burnside Lodge Timeshare. This was an excellent place to stay, and we were very pleased with the accommodation.

Bowness on Windermere

Bowness is a small town on the shore of Windermere. It has more of a village feel than its larger cousin at the head of the lake at Ambleside.Bowness is dominated by the lakefront jetties where ferries, steamers, yachts and rowboats can be hired. We walked around Bowness, and dined in several of the cafes and pubs. The restaurant "Lucy 4" (i.e. Lucyfor food, Lucy for wine etc) was our pick for food and service.
